Hidden within Massarelos district, among the ruins of the former Monchique’ s convent , is a restaurant that does its best to combine the good taste of the space with a pleasant meal, made to reinforce the pleasure of simply being there. That’s Sessenta Setenta (like ‘sixty seventy’ but playing on words that, in portuguese, also sounds like ’if you seat, you’ll be tempted’), a privileged place that hides a secret that’s worth uncovering: a breathtaking view over the Douro river that we cannot imagine from the entrance.

The dining room is decorated in a sober minimalist way by one of the owners that is an architect, with the stone walls in shades of gray and black, and clear tone wood floors, over which are placed a series of wooden tables and chairs distributed in rows. By lunchtime the natural sunlight fills up the room in a smooth way, getting in through the windows facing the river, as well as at night there is a faint lighting that comes from candles and lamps discreetly placed in the room, giving the space an intimate and cosy ambience.

The cook is contemporary and made by another of the owners, and is characterized by the creativity and originality of the courses, letting us feel the pleasure of who left everything behind and is now commited to the preparation and presentation of the meals with feeling.
